We all lead busy, hectic lives. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the commitments we have to meet, the jobs we have to do, and the people that we take care of, we don’t realize that we’re not taking care of the most important person: Ourselves! We just keep going through life, ignoring the warning signs that we’re suffering and we fail to do anything to correct that. Give your self a “cherish check”.  These are just 5 signs that you need to cherish YOU.

Getting out of bed in the morning takes amazing effort.

I’m not saying you have to jump out of bed in the morning, singing and dancing. But if you wake up lifeless and joyless, there’s a problem.  If  all you want to do is hide under the covers, you need to be cherished. BY YOU.

You’re grumpy. Irritable. Mean.

Are you extremely irritated by the smallest things? Do you snap at the people who are closest to you? Ask them for their honest opinion and take it to heart. If they think you fit this description: Girl, you need to take care of yourself! You need to be cherished. BY YOU.

You’re avoiding things you usually like.

Do you just come home and vegetate? Are your hobbies collecting dust?  Are you backing out of girl time when you used to look forward to getting together with your friends? When you neglect the things that bring you joy, you’re not well emotionally.  You need to be cherished. BY YOU.

You can’t concentrate or focus.

Do you find yourself repeating menial tasks because you can’t concentrate? Is it hard to buckle down and get to work on anything? You need to be cherished. BY YOU.

You have no alone time or a space to recharge.

You’re stressed. You have responsibilities everywhere: at work, at home, at church, in your community. Wrapped up in there should be some time and space for just YOU. If you never get away from your responsibilities you will burn out. No one can live in a pressure cooker all the time! Where do you go when you need some peace? If you don’t have such a place, find one! It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. It just has to be yours. You need to be cherished. BY YOU.

So…what’s the verdict?

Take some time to think through each of the points and questions above  and honestly evaluate what’s going on with you. Was your Cherish Check a pass or fail?  If it was a pass:  Yaaaasss girl!  You know how to cherish yourself.  If it was a fail:  Don’t be upset!  You just have some work to do to get to the place where it is a priority to cherish YOU.  And this work is not a chore. It can and should be fun and enlightening. Getting to know what YOU need and making sure you get what YOU need is an amazing thing!

Your Homework

Take some time to think about the things that are stressing you out. Is there anything you can do to make them less stressful?
Take MORE time and think about the things you enjoy! Promise yourself that you will do ONE of those things before the week is over.

    This was totally me a year ago. Now I make sure that at the very least I take 2 hrs a week to do something I enjoy. Sometimes it’s a bubble bath, sometimes it’s quiet time with a book, and at other times it’s me watching a movie alone. It’s easy to get lost with so many day-to-day responsibilities, but to make sure that you are whole, you have to treat your self to things that excite your own happiness. Don’t wait for someone else to make you happy, because you’ll probably wait an eternity.
